High nitrate levels in potable water are dangerous, with a legal limit of 50mg/l. A nitrate reduction system features a quality vessel filled with resin and a multi-port valve at the top. Water passes over the resin and nitrate is swapped for chloride ions. To remove nitrate, the resin must be regenerated with salt on a regular basis. Due to fluctuations in nitrate levels a time-based regeneration system is recommended.
